IWC released special edition Ingenieur chronographs in 2014 for Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, who were teammates at the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team. The exclusive timepieces had a limited run of 250 pieces each and both versions feature a titanium case and a medallion of race-used carbon fiber from a Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 car on the case back. Hamilton's model has a carbon fiber dial and comes with a titanium bracelet.

Competing as McLaren-Honda that year, the team finished ninth in the Constructor's Championship. The highlight of the season was a sixth place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix by Fernando Alonso, who also set the fastest lap of the race.
