Robert Kubica

Robert Józef Kubica (born December 7, 1984) is a Polish racing driver who previously competed in Formula One, and is perhaps most famously known for his near-fatal rally crash in early 2011 that resulted in a partial amputation of his right forearm and costing him his 2012 Scuderia Ferrari seat.

F1 Career

Kubica became the first Polish driver to race in Formula One in 2006 with BMW Sauber, initially to replace Jacque Villeneuve at the Hungarian Grand Prix but kept the race seat for the remainder of the season after the Canadian driver left the team. In his second full season with Sauber, Kubica became the first Polish driver to win a Formula One race at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.

After being sidelined from Grand Prix racing after his 2011 rally injuries, Kubica made a remarkable comeback in 2018 with Williams as a reserve driver before landing a race seat the following year. He scored the British outfit’s only point of the 2019 season at the German Grand Prix, breaking the record for the longest time between points finishes. 2020 saw a return to Sauber, then known as Alfa Romeo Racing, as a reserve driver. Kubica participated in his final Formula One races in 2021 as a replacement driver when Kimi Räikkönen had tested positive for COVID-19, and retired from Fomula One at the end of 2022.
