Montres Edox et Vista SA was founded in 1884 by Swiss watchmaker Christian Ruefli-Flury in Biel/Bienne. Edox is known for several industry firsts, including the first crown with tension ring for increased water resistance and first watch with full coverage of all time zones. The company temporarily became an affiliate of the General Watch Company during the Quartz Crisis, becoming stablemates with companies like Certina, Eterna, Mido, Oris, and Technos. Edox regained independence in 1983 when the company was purchased by Victor Strambini and was relocated to Genevez, and has since remained a family-owned company.
Sauber F1
Edox had previously sponsored the Dakar Rally and the World Rally Championship before their involvement in Grand Prix racing. In February of 2016, the Sauber F1 team announced a partnership with Edox that ran until the end of 2017. The Edox Chronorally Sauber F1 Team Limited Edition was first released in 2016 with three different dial options: Blue and black (ref. 38001-TIN1-NBUJ), black (ref. 38001-TIN-NIN), and white (ref. 38001-TIN-AIN). A light blue version (ref. 38001-TINN1-NIBU1) was announced in 2017. Edox also released the Edox Chronorally Sauber F1 Team 25th Anniversary Limited Edition (ref. 38001-TINN2-BUB25) to celebrate the Swiss team’s quarter century milestone, with “25 Years of Formula 1” on the dial and limited to 500 pieces.
