Lemania was a Swiss watch and movement manufacturer that was founded in 1884 by Alfred Lugrin. Lugrin had trained at Jaeger-LeCoultre, and up until around 1930 the factory was named after him. The brand was then renamed as Lemania Watch Co. and based in L’Orient, Switzerland.
SSIH
To survive the Great Depression, Lemania joined the Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère (SSIH) with Omega and Tissot in 1932. While Lemania continued to manufacture their own watches, the brand’s focus shifted to designing and making complications to their new partners. Up until the 1970s, every chronograph movement used by Omega and Tissot were made by Lemania, which notably includes the Omega Speedmaster that went to the moon. Lemania movements have also been used by Breguet and Patek Philippe.
As a consequence of the quartz crisis, Lemania separated from the SSIH in 1982. In 1992, the brand was acquired by Breguet .
Custom Ferrari Timepieces
It has become well known that Scuderia Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari had commissioned small batches of Ferrari-branded watches as gifts for close friends, drivers, and collaborators during the 1950s. Mainly provided by Bolognese jeweler Gerardo Veronesi, these early Ferrari watches featured brands such as Zenith, Vetta, Super Royal, and Longines. By the 1960s, Lemania timepieces were used along with Rewel and future official Ferrari partner Girard-Perregaux.
