TW Steel was founded in 2005 by Ton and Jordy Cobelens in the Netherlands. Despite being a relatively young watch brand, the father and son team have built an impressive motorsport collaboration portfolio that belies their relatively short history. This was no beginner’s luck though, as Ton’s involvement in the watch industry stretches back to 1980, working as a distributor, designer, and marketing with some of the biggest brands in the industry. TW Steel has a focus on oversized watches and chronographs, powered by Citizen Miyota automatic movements and Ronda Swiss quartz movements.
F1 and MotoGP
When it comes to TW Steel and Grand Prix racing, it’s very much a case of “Where do I begin?” Formula One drivers? They have worked with Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi, and David Coulthard. What about MotoGP? No less than Mick Doohan and The Doctor himself, Valentino Rossi. If we’re talking Grand Prix racing teams, Renault F1, Sahara Force India, and Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP have all made appearances in their lineup. TW Steel have even made a custom watch for former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan during his time as a brand ambassador. And of course, this is completely leaving out other series such as the FIA World Rally Championship, Australian V8 Supercars, and even the Dakar Rally.
