Àlex Crivillé Tapias (born March 4, 1970) is the first Spanish motorcycle racer to win a 500cc motorcycle Grand Prix World Championship, after winning the world title in 1999.
500cc Career
Crivillé’s premier class Grand Prix career began in 1992 with the Pons Racing team, having also made history as the first Spaniard to win a race in the 500cc category at the Dutch GP in Assen as a rookie. He was promoted to the factory Honda team in 1994 alongside Mick Doohan and Shinichi Itoh. After Doohan suffered a career-ending crash three rounds into the 1999 season, Crivillé went on to take the world title in Repsol Honda colors over Kenny Roberts Jr. and Tadayuki Okada.
Crivillé retired after the end of the 2001 season just before the dawn of the MotoGP era, and with a final tally of 15 premier class victories and 35 podium finishes. The Spanish rider was inducted in the MotoGP Hall of Fame in 2016.
