Ben Spies (born July 11, 1984) is a three time AMA Superbike champion, 2009 Superbike World Champion, and MotoGP race winner.
First MotoGP Points and World Superbike Title
The American scored his first MotoGP points in 2008 as a wild-card for Rizla Suzuki. Ultimately not offered a full time Suzuki MotoGP ride, Spies contested the 2009 Superbike World Championship with Yamaha and winning the title in his first try before capping the season off with another MotoGP wild-card ride for the one-off Yamaha Sterilgarda team.
MotoGP Career
His first full season in MotoGP was in 2010 with Monster Yamaha Tech 3, followed by two seasons with the factory Yamaha team to replace Valentino Rossi during his time with Ducati. This would prove to be the end of Spies’ full-time participation in the premier class, as his 2013 season with Pramac Ducati only saw him make two starts due to injuries before announcing his retirement at Motegi.
Paul Picot
Spies was signed by Paul Picot during his first full season in MotoGP. The partnership was marked by the release of the Paul Picot C-Type Plongeur 48 Ben Spies Limited Edition which was limited to 111 pieces.
Jorg Gray
In 2012, Spies teamed up with California watch brand Jorg Gray and the Jorg Gray JG6700-11 Ben Spies Limited Edition featured at Baselworld of that year.
