Emilio Giuseppe “Nino” Farina (October 30, 1906 – June 30, 1966) was an Italian racing driver and the winner of the first ever Formula One World Driver’s Championship in 1950 with Alfa Romeo. While 1947 was the first full season of Formula One racing, the series was not recognized as a world championship until three years later. After finishing 4th overall in 1951, Farina drove for Scuderia Ferrari for the remainder of his Formula One career, taking his last F1 win at the 1953 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. It would prove to be Farina’s final full time season in Formula On. A crash in a sports car race ended his 1954 season after only entering two rounds, and Alberto Ascari’s death in 1955 prompted his retirement from F1. Farina was killed in a road accident while on his way to the 1966 French Grand Prix.
