Jorge Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo (born May 4, 1987) is a Spanish five-time World Champion in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, with three titles in the premier class in 2010, 2012, and 2015.

MotoGP Career

Lorenzo began his MotoGP career with Yamaha in 2008 as Valentino Rossi‘s teammate, winning all three of his world titles in the top class with the Japanese team. Lorenzo’s 2017 switch to Ducati produced mixed results, having suffered his first winless season in MotoGP and endured an in-season announcement in 2018 that his contract would not be renewed before immediately responding with three race wins in quick succession.

Lorenzo began the 2019 season with a two-year contract with Repsol Honda to replace the outgoing Dani Pedrosa, but a vertebrae injury during the Dutch TT weekend prompted him to announce his retirement at the season finale in Valencia. Lorenzo ended his career with a total of 47 wins and 114 podiums, and was inducted in the MotoGP Legends Hall of Fame in 2022.

Formula 1 Test with Mercedes-AMG Petronas

Lorenzo made his Formula One testing debut in late 2016 at Silverstone with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. Driving Lewis Hamilton‘s 2014 title-winning Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid, the Spanish rider achieved a fastest lap of 00:50:452 at the legendary circuit.

Sector No Limits

Lorenzo was announced as an ambassador of Italian watch brand Sector No Limits in 2013. The partnership yielded the Jorge Lorenzo Collection, which featured a number of different models. Various visual references to the Mallorcan were incorporated into the design, such as his trademark 99 or elements from his “por fuera” logo.

The partnership came to a scheduled but rocky end in 2015, with an announcement that the brand “does not identify with the events that have occurred in recent weeks in the context of the MotoGP world championship”. This occurred shortly after Lorenzo worked to uphold Valentino Rossi‘s grid penalty due to the Italian’s earlier clash with Marc Marquez, which would be served at the title showdown.

Tissot

Lorenzo was announced as a Tissot ambassador in 2016. The Swiss brand has gone on to release three Jorge Lorenzo edition T-Race quartz chronographs from 2017 until the Spanish rider’s final MotoGP season in 2019.
